If your Local Authority (LA) uses Broadcast, their file-sharing module to share documents with schools, you will see a set of roles within your account.
These roles are defined by your LA to ensure that documents are shared with the right stakeholders in your school. Files can include guidance, statutory documents, or confidential information.
Important: You should ensure, where possible, that at least one user is assigned to each role within your account. If no staff members are assigned to a role, any files shared with that role will be unavailable.
Confidential Files
Your LA can share Confidential Files with specific roles (e.g. Headteacher, SENCO, Deputy). To make sure important documentation is not missed:
A role can only be assigned once a staff member is set up as a Perspective user and given permission to access LA Documents. This ensures that only authorised users can view files shared by your Local Authority.
Who Can Assign Roles?
-
Only users with Admin permissions in Perspective can assign roles.
-
For security reasons, to be assigned an SLT-specific role (e.g. Deputy Headteacher), the staff member must already be part of the SLT team.
Assigning Roles
-
Navigate to Settings (Cog Icon).
-
Select Manage User Roles.
-
In the list of available roles, click the dropdown menu alongside a role.
-
Tick the staff member(s) who should hold that role.
You can assign:
-
Multiple staff to the same role.
-
Multiple roles to the same staff member.
If the staff member does not appear in the dropdown, you must first create them as a user in Perspective and ensure they have permission to access LA Documents.
Key Notes
-
Assigning someone to an existing role will give them access to all previously shared files for that role.
-
The Headteacher role cannot be changed within Perspective. If you need to update the headteacher for your school, please contact perspectivesupport@angelsolutions.co.uk.
-
Changes save automatically – once assigned, you can simply leave the page.
