Gathering Evidence to Support Your SEF (BSQs)

One of the greatest strengths of the SEF in Perspective is how it brings collaboration and evidence gathering together in one place.

Instead of relying on a single voice, Bite-Sized Questions (BSQs) allow every member of the SLT (or team, for Team SEFs) to contribute their own detailed insights.
This helps you capture a wide range of perspectives, build a rich evidence base, and ensure that the final SEF reflects the expertise and experience of your whole team.

Perspective allows all contributions to be viewed, compared, and pulled directly into the main SEF, so you can move seamlessly from gathering ideas to agreeing on a polished, inspection-ready document.

What Are Bite-Sized Questions?

Bite-Sized Questions (BSQs) allow SLT members to contribute detailed responses to the SEF.
Each SLT member has their own set of BSQs (or team members, if working on a Team SEF).

  • Each SLT member completes their own individual BSQs.

  • They can view other answers via the SLT Answers tab.

  • The main SEF section is shared between staff.

This makes BSQs an ideal way to gather evidence and individual perspectives before agreeing on a final SEF response.

Accessing Bite-Sized Questions

  1. Click Self Evaluation from your main Perspective toolbar.

  2. On the dashboard, choose the SEF area you want to work on.

  3. Inside that section, select Bite-Sized Questions from the left-hand menu.

You’ll then see all BSQs linked to that section, ready to complete.

Completing Bite-Sized Questions

Each BSQ comes with a grade set and a text area for your written response.

Grading a BSQ

  • Click the radio button on the right to select your grade.

Adding or Editing an Answer

  • Click Add/Edit Answer Text. A text box will expand where you can type your response to support the grade you’ve chosen.

Full-Screen Mode

  • Click the four-arrow icon to open the text editor in distraction-free mode.

Formatting Tools

  • Use the toolbar above the text box to format your response, add bold text, bullet points, or tables to structure your evidence clearly.

Supporting Your BSQ Answers

You can also add evidence and view guidance while completing BSQs:

  • Evidence: Tick the box next to relevant evidence to link it. All selections save automatically.

  • Grade Statement: Hover over the OGRI radio button to view guidance for each grade.

  • Question Guidance: Click the Question Guidance button for advice when completing each question.

There’s no set order for completing BSQs, add your text first and assign a grade later, or work through them in any order that suits you.

Collaborating with Staff (Using BSQ Content in the SEF)

One of the best features of Perspective’s SEF is how easily you can collaborate and build from others’ input.

To view your colleagues’ BSQ responses:

  1. Go to the SEF section you want to review.

  2. Click Bite-Sized Questions.

  3. Select Show Answers next to the relevant BSQ.

Perspective will display:

  • Each staff member’s response

  • Their name

  • The date their content was saved

If you see an answer you’d like to include, click Copy to Clipboard, then paste it directly into the main SEF Judgement field.
This saves time and ensures you’re building from the strongest shared insights.

How BSQs Power TILDA

One of the most exciting developments in Perspective is how TILDA, your AI-powered SEF assistant, can use BSQs to create or refine content automatically.

When your BSQs are complete, TILDA may draw on these, using a combination of primarily your grade answers and BSQ text responses, to produce more accurate, Ofsted-aligned SEF drafts that reflect your team’s real evidence and expertise.

By completing all BSQs within a section, you help TILDA deliver suggestions that are more relevant, precise, and tailored to your school’s context.
This turns the insight your SLT contributes into a structured, inspection-ready SEF in a fraction of the time.

Note: When a user selects Refine in TILDA and includes BSQs, only their own BSQs are considered in the refinement.
